Want to Be a Writer?

Whether you want to write a book or find yourself in a career working as a freelance writer, knowing where to start can be quite overwhelming.  There are so many directions you can take as a writer no matter what road you decide to take it is important to find your niche.  As a freelance writer it is important to note whether you are good at certain topics, niches, styles, and so on.  Also it is a great idea to do some research before diving into the world of freelancing.  The opportunities are endless and you can make a decent income once you find your groove as a freelance writer.  Here is a link to my list of freelancing sites that you can check out.  Also I save a lot of pins on Pinterest that also give great sites that you can also sign up with to begin your journey as a writer.

Also if you have an idea? or are considering writing a book? Or even just Brainstorming for an idea? You can still take on the career as a writer.  Writing a book is just as important as becoming a freelance writer.  Find your genre, give yourself the chance to open up your imagination also.  Don't hold back, write every thought down.  Below are some steps to help you get started as a novelist.

First you need to come up with the genre that you really want to focus on.  It can be fiction, non-fiction, science-fiction, romance, mystery, dystopian, and so many others.  This is critical though, you need to make sure you choose a genre you are passionate about also.  Once you have your genre you are ready to begin the brainstorming step which is where you write down all your thoughts and ideas. The process of writing a book can be overwhelming and you can easily get discouraged, but don't let it get you down, just try and remember 'why' you are writing your novel.  You are wanting to tell a story, one that is meaningful to you, one that can move mountains, all you have to do is pour your passion into the words that you type as you write your novel.  Embrace the emotions, the passion, discouragement and allow it to feed your passion as you tell your story.

Make sure you brainstorm and get a clear idea of what and how you want to write your book in narration sense. You can write in third person omnicent, third person limited, first person, and so on.  It is your choice as the writer to make that call but make sure it is consistent throughout the book.   Make small milestones that will help keep you focused and on track.  Like, for instance, you can make a goal of how  many words a week to write down towards your novel which will hopefully give you a sense of a strong timeline for you to follow as well.  It's okay to get flustered when writing, you are telling a story, one that is special to you whether it be a true one or not.  You are going to feel emotions that are going to have you all over the place, you are going to feel the need to quite, the need to start over, and that is okay.  Embrace those emotions and use them, allow that energy to be used to complete your novel.

Also you want to ensure you are taking breaks, brain-breaks for sure.  You don't want to get burnt out, so make sure you are taking time in  the day to recuperate or even allow yourself so much time to write a day and then make sure you are doing something for yourself.  Don't become consumed by your novel to where you become blocked off from you family and friends.  Make sure you are making a healthy plan to schedule out your writing time that gives you an opportunity to allow yourself time for the ones you love and your social life, work life, and even your personal time for you.
