How to Get Started as a Direct Salesman
When trying to decide if becoming an independent consultant for a direct sales company is for you can be overwhelming.  There are so many different companies to choose from, ranging from companies that sale Tupperware, popular fashion, make-up, work-out gear, and so on.  It amazes me to think of how many direct sales companies there are to choose from and that is why it is so important to do your research when deciding which company is best for you.  A pet peeve of mine when it comes to direct sales is when consultants of a company try to bombard me with constant nagging posts to either sell or buy from or with them.  That is not the proper way to manage a direct sales company and can really hurt your business in the long run.  You want to build relationship and bond with your customers, this helps you know what they like and who they are as individuals.  This gives you credibility and much more likely to be successful in your journey to being a proper direct salesman for the company you chose.

Direct selling, the classic work-at-home business for parents that want to be home with their kids can be a great way to make a decent income while working in the comforts of your own home.  It can be a great way to earn extra money while maintaining a desirable home-life balance and a flexible schedule suitable for the whole family.  Direct selling offers many advantages: Your schedule is measurable to the amount of time you want to put in, it doesn’t take much of an upfront investment when getting started either, and it can be a fun while allowing you to build a  social enterprise for yourself as well, particularly when you do home parties and events. Your friends and family become not only your customers but perhaps also your colleagues as you embark on this new journey as a direct salesman.  When you recruit new sales consultants to your team this will also help you grow your social enterprise and build long-lasting relationships.

It is so important to try and build a relationship with potential customers before trying to push your products on them.  To get started as a consultant I have learned that you must have a passion for the company that you chose.   You need to love the products that you sell or you will never be able to successfully grow as a direct salesman in the company that you choose.  Customers need to see the love you have for the products that  you promote.  Also be informative, post on social media but don't force.  Build a special page devoted to your business or a group page.  Feel free to be open about your products and casually ask if your friends would like to join in on an online Facebook party.  Also be open with your audience, give them the opportunity to also invite their friends too.

There are so many ways to promote your business without having to make others feel uncomfortable and offset from your business.  Some goals for you as you decide which company you are going to join are:
  1.  Decide your short and long term goals.
  2. Research your target market/ potential customer base.
  3. Try to set a side a home office area to work in.
  4. Build a solid network.
  5. Try advertising and marketing through social media sites.
These five steps can definitely help you get off the ground and build a solid foundation.  Start with friends and family then once you feel comfortable branch off to groups and people outside your personal circle.  Your family and friends can help also  get the word out, there are also opportunities that allow you to work outside the home where you can sell your products; your workplace, church, and even social groups that you attend.  To be a good consultant you need to know the company you stand for and represent, do your history.  Also you need to have a good amount of knowledge about the products you are selling as well.  Below is a list of companies that are involved with Direct Sales.
